Programmes & Activities
The Foundation has implemented a range of programs and activities aimed at embedding a culture of Human Rights within South Africa and its vulnerable communities. These initiatives are pivotal in contributing to the realization of a “united and democratic South Africa that rightfully assumes its place as a sovereign state among nations“. Here’s an overview of the key programs and activities

Research Programmes
Acknowledging its limited research capacity, the Foundation leverages external research institutes’ reports to delve into societal and policy issues. Reports from esteemed institutions such as the Research Science Council, Institute for Race Relations, universities, and trade unions offer profound analyses on a spectrum of socio-economic, human rights, and political affairs. These research findings significantly enrich the Foundation’s understanding and inform its programs and activities.
Policy Advocacy
Recognizing policy advocacy as a potent tool utilized by NGOs, civil society, and foundations worldwide, the Foundation has adopted it as a cornerstone program. Through policy advocacy, the Foundation engages with the government to address policy or legislative frameworks that obstruct the realization of Human Rights. By exerting pressure and influencing decision-makers, policy advocacy serves as an effective mechanism to ensure governmental compliance with Human Rights principles. The Foundation’s current policy advocacy focuses on critical issues such as:
- Gender-based violence (against women and children)
- Labor legislative framework to foster youth employment initiatives
- Criminal legislative framework to combat crime and enhance the effectiveness of the criminal justice system
- Quality health services for all citizens
- Reviewing South Africa’s land reform program to expedite the resolution of land claims lodged by communities before December 31, 1998
- Legislative framework monitoring compliance with the Extension of the Security of Tenure Act of 1996
- Establishing legislative provisions for a Land Ombudsman to facilitate the swift resolution of land claims and prevent unlawful evictions
Through these programs and activities, the Foundation is steadfast in its commitment to advancing Human Rights, fostering social justice, and contributing to the realization of a prosperous and equitable South Africa.
